Wills Modernisation Industry Panel launches new podcast discussion series as first episode goes live

The Wills Modernisation Industry Panel has launched a new podcast discussion series, Modernising Wills – Reform and Reality, as part of its broader programme examining the legal, evidential and technological implications of Electronic Wills.

The first episode ‘What is an Electronic Will?’ is available now at – https://arken.legal/insights/what-is-an-electronic-will/

Convened following the Law Commission of England and Wales report on modernising Wills law, the Panel brings together senior representatives from legal practice, professional bodies and technology providers to consider how Electronic Wills could be introduced safely, securely and in a way that maintains trust in the system.

The Panel is independently facilitated by Arken Legal, which supports coordination of its discussions and outputs.

The new podcast series forms part of that work, alongside roundtables, working groups and published recommendations.

Each episode will focus on a different area of reform and feature contributors drawn from across the Panel.

The opening episode features:

  • Anthony Philips, CEO @ Arken Legal
  • Seb Shakh, CEO @ SuperLawyer
  • Mev Dzihic  CTO @ Lawtech 365 part of tmGroup

Together, they explore what an Electronic Will is as envisaged by the Law Commission, why that definition matters, and the evidential and technological principles underpinning safe implementation.

Anthony Philips said: “The conversation around Electronic Wills is rightly gaining momentum, but meaningful progress depends on careful examination of the legal, practical and technological issues involved. The Wills Modernisation Industry Panel was established to support that collaborative discussion, and this series is intended as one contribution to that wider work.”

Future episodes will feature contributors from across the Panel examining topics including remote witnessing, reliable systems, contentious probate, storage and registration, comparative international developments and adoption.

Each episode will be followed by a published paper summarising discussion findings, key themes and emerging recommendations. These papers will be available alongside the podcast series on the Panel’s website.

The series is designed to support informed discussion across the profession and contribute to practical recommendations for the safe introduction of Electronic Wills.

Episode One is available now.
