We will walk 1,000 miles – a genealogist’s journey

Six brave colleagues have pledged to walk a combined distance of just under 6,000 miles over the next 11 months – that is further than the UK to Kenya! This is to be the first of several fundraising activities to be held by probate genealogy firm Anglia Research over the next 23 months.

Not content with a standard charity of the year initiative, Anglia Research has officially selected two Children’s hospice charities to raise funds for over the next two years. This joint move allows the two company offices to have a local charity to support, something voted for unanimously by the employees.

The walking challenge is the first of a number of steps to be taken by the firm as part of their new Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) programme.

Anglia Research has supported one of these charities for many years – East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH), which is local to their Ipswich office. But their support of Claire House Hospice, based in The Wirral, near Anglia’s Southport office, is a new partnership. Both are brilliant charities that truly do make a difference but, like all charities, their ability to raise funds has been heavily impacted by COVID-19.

The team have attended online meetings with both charities and have been both moved and inspired by what they have seen and heard. First out of the blocks with an idea was Case Manager Sam Watkin, who came up with the 1,000-mile walking challenge – a test of endurance since taken up by five other colleagues in what has become known as Anglia’s Grand Tour.

With a variety of other events planned, such as volunteering, bake offs and even sky diving, the company hopes to raise as much money as possible for the children’s hospices. At the end of 2023, Anglia Research will divide the total amount raised and share it equally between EACH and Claire House.

Please keep an eye out for new updates and follow Anglia Research on social media to see details of the team’s progress.
