With the continued success of the Inheritance Data share search, we have seen a huge number of shareholdings united with beneficiaries of estates that would have previously been missed.
In one case, Inheritance Data was contacted by an individual who was the named executor of her late father’s estate. Mrs R contacted us to see if we could help build a comprehensive list of all accounts / policies and shares that were either known or unknown to the family. Mrs R knew some of the accounts that her father held and had located some share certificates that indicated to possible holdings within multiple registrars. However, Mrs R was unable to apply for a Grant of Probate without knowing the approximate value of her father’s holdings and where these may lie.
Following a comprehensive search with Inheritance Data, we were able to identify accounts held with banks, pension funds, investment managers and multiple shareholdings – most of which were unknown to Mrs R.
Previously, a search for shares would have only been possible with holdings held by Equiniti PLC. However, with the introduction of our industry leading Share Search, we were able to conduct a comprehensive search of the complete FTSE 350 to uncover active holdings with Equiniti, Computershare and Link which totalled over 18 holdings with a value of £210K.
Within Computershare and Link alone, there were a total of six holdings with equated to 6733 shares. Following a comprehensive report provided by Inheritance Data, which included the total number of shares held in each holding, we were able to provide an approximate value so that the Grant of Probate could be applied for without delay.
We are now providing this search as part of every Financial Asset Search and have the ability to locate historic shares for executors and professionals that wish to protect themselves against any future holdings coming to light and causing unnecessary costs to the estate.
