Women in Wills

Women in Wills is back

After a short summer break, the Women in Wills group is back and has hosted two events for its members in September.

The group had a record number of attendees register for ‘Will in Different Jurisdictions’. The online event saw a panel of will writers compare and contrast the validity, execution and intestacy rules of wills in different jurisdictions.

Our panel, hosted by Chair of Women in Wills, Paige Gouldthorpe included the following professionals.

  • Lucy Cresswell, Solicitor, JMW Solicitors (English Wills)
  • Julia Whytock, Retired Solicitor & Professional Will writer (Scottish Wills)
  • Lea Maynard, Senior French Executive Buckles Solicitor LLP (French Wills)
  • Roser Coller, Founding Partner, Temis & Co (Spanish Wills)
  • Yasmin Hoque, Partner, AL-HQ Law & More (Islamic Wills)

The webinar provided attendees important considerations when assisting clients. We recommend that viewers watch the Q+A session at the end for a valuable comparison of the different jurisdictions when managing common challenges such as Wills and Trusts. Following this, Women in Wills hosted a Regional Lunch in Leeds for the networking group.

With aims of growing the networking group in 2024, WIW was keen to host this year’s Regional events in a variety of new cities. The event was a success and had over 10 first-time members in attendance.

Attendees heard from Women in Wills sponsors: Arken.legal, Estatesearch and Exizent on their recent developments.

The group then heard from guest speaker, Anthony Belcher, Director of The Society of Will Writers. Anthony discussed the challenges around the CMA review and the importance of not establishing a them vs. us mentality with the regulated and unregulated sector. Anthony outlined the work of the Society of Will Writers and the value of its membership via their training and support programme. Thank you to Women in Wills sponsors, committee members and Chair for your continued support with Women in Wills.
