Thinking of setting up a Will Writing business?

It could be argued that the Will Writing and Estate Planning sector is recession proof. As the economy becomes more unpredictable and demand shifts by the minute, knowing your business is secure has become a priority.

With 2 million Wills reportedly written each year and over 2,000 Lasting Powers of Attorney (LPAs) being registered every day in the UK, Estate Planning is a viable area to get into.

It’s also essential not to underestimate the importance of the sector. As well as offering an interesting and potentially lucrative business opportunity, planning for people’s futures can be rewarding. It will only be after you’ve put somebody’s affairs in order and finally given them peace of mind, that you will truly recognise the value of the service you’re providing.

Whether you’re adding Will Writing to your existing range of services or are thinking of setting up a new business, there are specific key aspects you need to have in place. These include:

  • Appropriate training
  • Will Writing software
  • Professional Indemnity (PII) cover
  • Stamps of approval or credibility
    • membership of an organisation
    • accreditations
  • Knowledge of how to market to your target audience
  • Tools to market your services
  • A website
  • Technology support

Knowing how to get started can be difficult, but the Legal Services Guild (LSG) are offering a comprehensive package for people looking to set up their own Estate Planning business.

Join us in Watford on the 12th April 2017 to develop your knowledge of the sector and increase your awareness on how the market landscape is changing.

  • Hi Dheneswaran,

Almost anyone can start a Will Writing company (providing you are eligible as a Director).

No formal qualifications are required but it would be very difficult to set out without an industry recognised qualification. There are a number of organisations offering training but The Society of Will Writers who I work for are the largest self-regulatory body of our type and would be happy to help you on your journey to running your own Will Writing business. Feel free to give me or our team a call on 01522 68 78 88
