Following the flurry of high-profile cabinet appointments made by Andy Burnham, Sarah Sackman’s re-appointment as minister received more muted attention.
The MP for Finchley and Golders Green remains in post as a minister of state the Ministry of Justice and has pledged to enhance legal aid and access to justice.
Commenting on her re-appointment in an Instagram caption, Sackman wrote: “I am delighted to have been asked by the Prime Minister to continue serving as the Minister of State for Courts and Legal Services.
“I look forward to working with the new Lord Chancellor and Secretary of State for Justice Alex Norris, a fantastic team of junior ministers, and inspirational campaigners to build a better justice system.
“There is a lot of work to do – delivering specialist rape courts, bringing down the court backlog, improving access to justice and enhancing legal aid to empower communities. Let’s get to it!”
Sackman, a KC called to the Bar in 2008, has been minister of state for courts and legal services since December 2024. She was solicitor general between July 2024 and December 2024.
As a barrister, Sackman specialised in public, election, planning, environment and rating law at Francis Taylor Building and Matrix Chambers.
