11 months on from the death of radio legend Nicholas Parsons, aged 96, his family are still waiting for probate.

The Parsons family spoke to Sebastian Shakespeare, from The Daily Mail to share their frustration.

Suzy, one of Nicholas’ daughters told the journalist that the wait was “shocking and really upsetting”, echoing the sentiments of so many who have had this part of the grieving process prolonged thanks to the coronavirus pandemic.

Delays are expected, but speaking to the newspaper, Suzy reveals that her, her brother Justin and Nicholas’ widow Ann are all helpless.

In The Daily Mail, Suzy is reported to have said:

“Everyone is using corona as an excuse. It leaves you in limbo. You can’t do anything – you can’t even sell a car that’s registered [to the deceased]. Everything is tied up and frozen.

“It means that until the probate is sorted out, nobody can move on with their lives.”

Explaining her frustration wasn’t focused on the solicitors helping with the probate, the Probate Office are the one’s the Parsons family blame for prolonging their grief.

Suzy added:

“They say one application for my father’s Will got ‘lost in the post’ and they never received it – the usual fob off. I realise we’re not alone but we feel we’ve got no alternative but to lodge a formal complaint.”

These frustrations have seemingly been echoed in the Wills and Probate sector over recent months, as backlogs continue to build up as a result of Covid-secure guidelines, staffing issues and sickness in the Probate office.
