New guide explains how to reseal grants of probate in Jersey

A new guide on resealing grants of probate abroad and in Jersey has been published.

Resealing allows a UK grant of probate to be recognised by courts in other jurisdictions, including Jersey and certain Commonwealth countries.

Jersey operates its own probate system and does not automatically recognise UK grants of probate.

Where assets in Jersey exceed £10,000, a grant must be resealed or a new application made through the Probate Division of the Royal Court of Jersey.

The process of resealing a grant of probate is often required when dealing with overseas shares, property, or financial assets.

The Share Data guide has been prepared for solicitors, executors, advisers, and private individuals dealing with international estates and overseas assets.

The guide contains practical information about when resealing may be required, common documentation requirements and practical considerations affecting timelines. It also covers overseas and cross-border probate considerations.
