New equity release law firm launches

A new law firm – Barton Law Limited, has launched to provide equity release legal services direct to consumers and via independent financial advisers across the UK – www.bartonlawltd.co.uk.

The newly regulated company is headed up by Peter Barton, who moves to Barton Law from UK law firm Ashfords. He brings with him a team of over 40 lawyers and legal assistants as a part of a divestment by Ashfords of its equity release business following a strategic review.

Peter led the equity release business at Ashfords for over 20 years. During that time it became one of the largest teams of its kind in the country winning national awards for the quality of its work in equity release and reversion plans. The team has completed over 200,000 equity release transactions advising clients directly and as a chosen provider of hundreds of regulated independent financial firms across the UK.

Barton Law will support clients across the UK from its head office in Exeter using cutting edge technology, which includes the market leading inCase app to provide real time information to clients on the progress of their transactions.

Managing Director Peter Barton said:

“We’re incredibly proud to be launching our new firm today and I’d like to thank all of our team, specialist advisors, suppliers and Ashfords for their support in making it happen and ensuring a smooth transition that maintained continuity of service for our existing clients.

We launch at a time of increasing demand for equity release or lifetime mortgages with lending surpassing £4.8bn and the number of mortgage products doubling over the last year. We help our clients who are looking at this option for a wide variety of reasons – from helping out family members to tax planning to putting more funds into their retirement pots.”

Alison Shiell, Operations Director at Barton Law explained:

“Given that clients who are releasing equity are doing so for personal reasons, it is important they get a personal service from us. Our clients are not case numbers and the people here at Barton Law have names not team numbers.  We shape our IT and service delivery around that promise and look forward to significantly growing our business as Barton Law.”

Law firms Porter Dodson and Kitsons, consultants iBoss, corporate finance broker Business Finance Services Ltd, accountants Azets and marketing agency Fuel advised on the set-up of Barton Law.
