Legal Eye, the legal compliance specialists, are delighted to announce they have completed their 500th Compliance Health Check.
The health checks have been conducted on behalf of SRA, CLC and CILEx firms over Legal Eye’s 7 year history.
The check consists of a Legal Eye compliance expert reviewing a firm’s Client Care letter and Terms of Business, as well as a check of their website, email footer and letterhead, to ensure they meet the requirements of their regulator.
Of the checks carried out in 2016, 87% were found to have errors or omissions, the gravest being lack of clarity over costs information to the client, and the longest client care letter running to a lengthy 12 pages. New research commissioned by legal regulators and the Legal Services Consumer Panel (LSCP) recently showed that client care letters are not as effective as they should be in making sure that clients understand the work that is being carried out on their behalf, or in outlining what is required of them.
Rhonda Treacy-Hales, Director of Business Development says “It has been very fulfilling to know that we have now provided our 500th law firm with peace of mind, and practical advice in relation to ensuring their client care letters and Terms of Business are compliant. Many firms worry about compliance, and in some cases, are embarrassed about the length or content of their documentation. We offer a completely confidential service and it is a good discipline to review documentation on at least an annual basis to ensure you stay on top of changes.”
Ensuring your Client Care documentation is up to date is critical. If you would like Legal Eye to complete a free Compliance Health Check*, please contact Rhonda Treacy-Hales on [email protected] / 0203 051 2049
