IPW Conference Gets Underway With Packed Schedule Of Speakers

The Institute of Professional Willwriters (IPW) and Institute of Scottish Professional Willwriters (ISPW) conference got underway today with the first day of its annual conference and AGM.

More than 100 delegates heard from key figures in the wills, probate and estate planning industry as part of a packed schedule of presentations. The two-day conference is providing ample networking opportunities with the highest ever number of delegates and sponsors attending the event.

Topics for the day included practical information such as Michael Budden from Lincs Private Client Services talking about how will writers can add value to their clients by talking about tax matters; and Andrea Pierce of Kings Court Trust sharing her views on the pitfalls in the preparation of Wills and the impact upon the Administration of the Estate.

Buckles Solicitors shared an insightful presentation on the approach to making a Will when there are assets in Spain or France with reference to Brussels IV and Brexit; and Peter Burton from Taylor Rose TTKWLtd looked at Lifetime Trusts – how to plan ahead and pass on the legacy later.

The conference also covered business issues affecting advisers in the wills and probate sector such as an overview of the major changes in the legal services market from Viv Williams of Symphony Legal; advice on funeral plans from Golden Charter; and an informative (if troubling) talk from Paul Holland from Beyond Encryption on the dangers presented by attacks on information security and specifically how we can all keep our emails safe thereby safeguarding our clients’ sensitive information as well.

Delegates will enjoy networking opportunities over drinks and dinner on the first evening of the conference followed by a second day of presentations including the formal Annual General Meeting section of the event.

Today’s Wills and Probate (TWP) is delighted to be the official media partner and sponsor of the conference.

Karen Babington, MD of Solve Legal Marketing (publishers of TWP), commented: “The IPW conference is a landmark in the calendar of wills and probate practitioners and provides a really valuable opportunity to meet with peers, make new contacts and refresh knowledge about the technical issues and business issues that affect us all.

“Today’s Wills and Probate aims to reflect the diverse make-up of the wills and probate sector and to be a useful source of information to busy practitioners. We’d love to speak to any delegates about what we should cover at this time of constant change during the course of the conference so please do say hello.”
