Inaugural Reshaping Legal Services conference set for October

Reshaping Legal Services conference 2022: “the public deserves a strong, ethical and diverse profession”

The Legal Services Board and the Legal Services Consumer Panel are holding the inaugural annual Reshaping Legal Services conference on Thursday 13th October 2022 at the King’s Fund in London.

Professional ethics and the rule of law will be debated as the legal profession explores how it ensures legal services secure public trust and confidence. Equality, diversity and inclusion will also be a key theme as regulators, lawyers, judges, campaigners, academics, and others discuss creating a sector that looks like the society it serves.

Sir Geoffrey Vos, Master of the Rolls, will deliver a keynote speech to open the day. Other speakers confirmed so far include:

  • Mick Antoniw, Counsel General and Minister for the Constitution, Welsh Government
  • The Rt. Hon. Lady Justice Simler, Court of Appeal Judge and lead Judge for Diversity
  • Professor Richard Moorhead, Professor of Law and Professional Ethics, University of Exeter Law School

The conference will include three panel discussions considering the following themes:

  • How do we deliver legal services that our diverse society needs and deserves?
  • Trust and ethics: has the legal sector lost its way?
  • Diversity and inclusion: as guardians of legal rights and the rule of law, why isn’t our sector leading the way?

Matthew Hill, Chief Executive of the Legal Services Board said:

“We are very grateful for the interest and support we have received so far and are looking forward to a great day of debate and discussion.”

The event aims to maintain the momentum of the Reshaping Legal Services strategy. It will promote collaboration and leadership, share new research and highlight positive examples of good practice to encourage everyone to play their part in tackling the challenges facing the sector.
