HMCTS changes: Inheritance Tax reporting for excepted estates

HM Courts & Tribunals Service (HMCTS) has recently changed the Inheritance Tax (IHT) reporting requirements for excepted estates. The amendments apply to all deaths on or after 1 January 2022 and are expected to reduce the number of submissions that require a completed IHT form.

King’s Court Trust’s new blog covers the changes, including low value excepted estates, exempt excepted estates, Transferable Nil Rate Band, the prescribed period, and more. It also provides an overview of the assets and liabilities that still need to be reported to the Probate Registry despite the changes to IHT reporting.
