A beloved British comedian and broadcaster has died aged 80.

The death of Jim Bowen, who was best known for presenting game show Bullseye, was today confirmed by his wife to BBC Radio Lancashire.

Whilst he became a household name in 1981, Bowen began his career in comedy during the 1960s, performing as a stand-up comedian. Before this, he had worked in education as a deputy headmaster.

Bowen’s career in television continued, and he later went on to make acting appearances in a number of programmes including Jonathan Creek, The Grimleys, as well as popular comedy Phoenix Nights.  From 1999 to 2003, he presented a live morning magazine programme on BBC Radio Lancashire.
