Co-op Legal Services records strong figures

Co-op Legal Services achieves record growth in 2024

Co-op Legal Services has delivered continued growth during 2024, while holding prices on its services for members and clients.

The member-owned organisation achieved strong volume growth in 2024, with revenue up almost a quarter (24%) to £84 million and increased underlying operating profit at £27 million.

Co-op Legal Services’ estate planning arm had a particularly strong year, with a 29% increase in the number of case openings. Furthermore, probate sales were up 2.2% despite a decrease in death rate of 2.8%.

In 2024, Co-op Legal Services made significant strides in expansion by forming successful partnerships with a range of organisations, from financial services businesses to charities. This allowed the business to broaden its reach and make its expert services more accessible to a greater number of member-owners and clients.

Digital expansion remained a primary focus for the business in 2024, as Co-op Legal Services introduced new technology, with successful investment in AI for probate cases, enabling clients’ cases to be resolved more quickly. Further investment in this technology has enabled the business to significantly improve its core operations and achieve further scale. Debbie White, Chair of the Co-op, added:

“These results show that our strategy on delivering for our member owners whilst also delivering long term financial and operational progress is working. I’m particularly delighted we have increased our active membership by 22%.

I’d also like to extend a thank you to each colleague for their focus and hard work in delivering these results on behalf of our members.

We continue to focus on long term profitable growth, creating more value for all our member owners and the communities they live in.”

Caoilionn Hurley, Managing Director of Co-op Legal and Life Services said:

“Our continued success is attributed to the dedication and enthusiasm of our colleagues, who are the driving force behind our business and its achievements. Their commitment to our clients and member-owners allows us to deliver top-tier legal services.

At the heart of our strategy are ongoing technological advancements, enhanced accessibility, strengthened partnerships, and a focus on delivering optimal customer experiences. These factors have been pivotal to our growth throughout 2024”.
