BARBRI Global partners with the O Shaped Lawyer to help shape its course content beyond SQE1 & SQE2

O Shaped Lawyer has partnered with BARBRI Global, a leading global legal education provider, to help shape its content beyond SQE1 & SQE2 and provide the “client voice” to BARBRI’s “Prep for Practice” Programme.

As part of this partnership, O Shaped Lawyer and BARBRI will work together to ensure that the O Shaped attributes, which incorporate essential human and business skills, are embedded into BARBRI’s Prep for Practice Programme alongside practice-specific content. BARBRI will harness the knowledge and industry experience of the O Shaped Board and gain valuable insights on the importance of the O Shaped competencies from senior in house leaders.

BARBRI’s Prep for Practice Programme provides trainees and junior lawyers with the necessary commercial, human and business skills required of a modern-day junior lawyer. The programme will accelerate training beyond graduate level and equip them with the tools to tackle the challenges of the working environment via the acquisition of skills and professional attitudes required to contribute and add value to their practice, clients and colleagues. Recognising the opportunity that the SQE gap in training provision has created, BARBRI’s Prep for Practice Programme aims to develop a new generation of innovative, collaborative, adaptable and diverse lawyers. BARBRI’s focus is on creating a training pathway that is agile and fit for purpose for business in 2022 and beyond and is working with its clients to understand the needs of their particular business and developing courses to address these requirements.

The O Shaped Lawyer started life in 2019 as a small gathering of GCs, passionate about driving positive change in the legal industry. It has grown significantly to become synonymous with a cultural change that places people and human behaviours at the heart of a more modern, progressive legal profession.

The O Shaped Education and Practice streams are a collaboration across the legal industry to achieve O Shaped’s vision of realising the potential of every legal professional, to create a more engaged, inclusive and healthy profession. As a result, users of legal services will benefit from a more relevant, efficient and customer-focused experience.

Dan Kayne, Founder of the O Shaped Lawyer, said:

“As a global leader in legal education, I have been very impressed with BARBRI’s progressive approach and am excited about what this collaboration will achieve in the coming months and years. We share the same ambition of providing aspiring lawyers with a modern, well-rounded education that will set them up well for their careers in the profession.”

Victoria Cromwell, Senior Director of Business Development at BARBRI Global, said:

“The new route to qualification through the SQE and the deregulation of skills training provides a huge opportunity for legal services providers to tailor their training to fit the specific needs of their business and clients. The incorporation of the ‘client voice’ and The O Shaped Attributes into such training is vital for the future development of training for the next generation of lawyers.”
