Ministry of Justice extends virtual will witnessing legislation

Kings Court Trust’s latest blog discusses the extension of video Will witnessing, the potential risks, and industry opinions on the legislation.

The legislation that allows for Wills to be witnessed online due to the COVID-19 pandemic has been extended until January 2024. Though the amendment was originally due to end 31 January 2022, the Ministry of Justice (MoJ) has deemed it necessary to remain in place, as many continue to isolate.

King’s Court Trust’s new blog covers the extended legalisation of virtual witnessing, how the Will writing process has been affected, and the risks associated with remote witnessing. Also, industry professionals share their views on the extension, with comments from Paul Winterflood, Managing Director & Estate Planner of Kingsman Associates, and Charlotte Toogood, Kings Court Trust’s Legal Services Director.
