Alan Eccles, the public Guardian, said at the Solicitors for the Elderly conference last week that guidance would shortly be forthcoming on investments in the form of a practice note. The long-awaited guidance will be accessible via www.gov.uk/opg. Eccles said that the guidance had been produced in association with independent industry associations and was intended to provide general investment guidance outlining the principles and themes to consider when dealing with investments on behalf of clients.

The practice notes on gifting – a guide to the legal background for deputies and attorneys – has also been updated.

The OPG is an arm of the Ministry of Justice (MoJ) responsible for administering LPAs.
