Questions raised over “missing” £97 million fortune of George Michael
One of two beneficiaries of fortune leaves just £6m in her will
The £97 million fortune left by George Michael to his sister has reportedly “disappeared”, with his sister leaving just £6.2 million in her will.
Upon the popstar’s death in 2016 on Christmas Day he only had two beneficiaries. Nothing was left to his partner, Fadi Fawaz.
The will left by Michael, whose real name is Georgios Kyriacos Panayiotou, caused friction between the sisters and Fawaz.
The two beneficiaries were his sisters, Yioda and Melanie, with the assets to be split equally between them. Melanie has since passed away, also on Christmas Day, in 2019. She left behind £6.2 million in assets.
Melanie had reportedly taken the death of her brother very poorly, with sources close to her stating she had distanced herself from those around her. Her and Michael were very close, frequently travelling together.
When the singer became intwined in a drink and drug battle, Melanie devoted herself to saving him. She will reportedly be buried next to her brother’s grave in Highgate Cemetery, which is also next to their mother’s.
However, the question over the funds remains a mystery as there are no obvious signs of large spending by Melanie before her death. What happened to the rest of the fortune is unclear.
