Today (15/05/17) marks the start of a week-long campaign to encourage awareness around one of the biggest causes of death.

Supported by the Alzheimer’s Society, Dementia Awareness Week will include fundraising events on both a local and national scale, in order to provide support for people with dementia as well as their families.

Running from the 15th – 21st of May, Dementia Awareness Week also aims to raise awareness about the condition, encouraging people to talk to a professional and ensure that it can be diagnosed at the earliest possible point.

Reported as one of the leading causes of death during 2015, dementia currently affects around 800,000 people in the UK, with a further 400,000 reportedly with the condition but unaware of it. It is hoped that by holding national awareness campaigns, people will be encouraged to talk about their concerns more openly, and receive support as soon as possible.

More information on the campaign can be found here.
