A few weeks into lockdown I decided that I wanted to do something different and learn a new skill which could help me, both as a writer for Today’s Wills and Probate and provide me with another new skill.
As well as juggling working from home, and keeping a two-year old little boy entertained, I jumped at the chance when I was asked if I wanted to go on a Will writing course.
When I discussed this with my friends – on our socially distant video call – they laughed but said why wouldn’t I do it. And, if I learnt anything could I help and advise them with regards to creating their first Will as they currently don’t have one. That was extremely daunting for me, and although I said I wouldn’t write their Will I’d advise them the best I could.
Prior to the Will Writing Course beginning today, Tuesday 12th May 2020, I had to undertake some pre-course learning and a test. Having little to none prior knowledge of will writing, I’ll be the first to admit I didn’t pass the test first time. But when I got my head around the fact that different areas of the UK have slight variations of the rules, I passed the test and was ready to embark on the next part of my will writing journey.
The first day of the course was a wealth of information, which helped me to form the basis of my will writing knowledge, as I’m sure it was intended to do. Starting off with the basics before delving into the in-depth stuff really built my confidence.
Let’s see what tomorrow brings, but I currently feel quite confident that I haven’t bitten off more than I can chew.
