Extension for paper probate applications until new year

Paper probate applications will now be accepted into the new year, as some practitioners are struggling to sign up to the new MyHMCTS online system.

On 1 December, a letter was sent to three professional bodies in which HMCTS acknowledged that they needed more time to resolve some of the issues, and as such is extending the grace period for the use of paper based probate applications until 11 January 2021.

HMCTS have revealed that the number of users that have signed up to the online system has doubled since the announcement was made for the applications to be submitted online. As such, the number of digital applications received by HMCTS has also doubled.

Paper applications received after 11 January will be returned unissued unless they are of the special types that are exempt from compulsory online submission.
