The BEST Foundation’s Inspiration & Innovation Conference 3.0, held on Tuesday 13th May at Birmingham’s iconic Edgbaston Stadium, brought together professionals from across the estate planning sector and proved to be the event’s most dynamic event yet.
Now firmly established as a key date in the sector calendar, this year’s conference was designed to challenge thinking, explore opportunity, and inspire collaboration. With a programme of expert keynote speakers, high-impact panel discussions, and valuable networking opportunities, the event provided an energising space for meaningful dialogue and professional growth.
The day featured a standout line-up of speakers including renowned legal expert Ian Bond, digital leadership specialist Leon McQuade, and England cricket legend Graham Gooch, who each brought their unique perspective on change, resilience, and leadership in today’s rapidly evolving landscape.
The conference was expertly hosted by returning sports broadcaster Jenny Drummond, whose guidance ensured the day flowed with energy and warmth.
Expertly hosted by returning broadcaster Jenny Drummond, the event opened with a welcome from BEST Advisory Board Chair Philip Pamment, who reflected on the Foundation’s progress over the past year. He was joined by fellow members of the Advisory Board for a discussion about the makeup of the Board and its vision for the year ahead.
BEST Vice Chair Charlotte Ponder then took to the stage with Ian Bond, who provided an in-depth look at the now released draft Wills Bill 2025 and the Law Commission’s report on Will reform. Audience engagement was high throughout, with live polls revealing that 93% of attendees would adapt their processes to accommodate electronic will signing should legislation allow.
Later in the morning, BEST’s LegalTech Panel returned to explore the evolving role of tech and AI in estate planning. Featuring industry figures Jonathan Maskew, Pippa Shepherd, Kieran Osborne, Emma Baddaley, and Claudine Jackson, the panel explored how firms can embrace innovation while protecting clients and professional standards.
Audience polling offered valuable insight: while 68% felt the profession is ready for digital wills, views on AI-generated wills were more divided — with 52% saying they would allow AI to draft their will. The session highlighted both the momentum of technological change and the important questions it raises for the profession.
After a vibrant lunch and networking session, Leon McQuade delivered a thought-provoking keynote. Drawing on his work with Andy’s Man Club and his experience advising businesses on digital transformation, Leon urged attendees to embrace tech and AI as non-negotiable tools for the future, challenging businesses to adapt, innovate, and lead.
The day concluded with a compelling and heartfelt address from Graham Gooch, who shared stories from his cricket career and reflected on the mindset required to lead, overcome setbacks, and achieve lasting impact. His stories left the room both entertained and inspired.
Throughout the day, delegates connected with a diverse range of exhibitors showcasing tools, technologies and services shaping the future of estate planning. Guests also ended the day with drinks at Edgbaston Stadium’s Skyline Bar enjoying the beautiful weather and stunning views, whilst sharing their thoughts on the day.
This year’s event also helped raise over £500 for Switch the Play Foundation, supporting athletes in life beyond sport.
All of the team at BEST Foundation extend their heartfelt thanks to headline sponsors Probate.Auction, and to all other sponsors, exhibitors and supporters, including YEPP, Arken, Wilkinson & Fox, ZEDRA, Property Solutions Group, Legacy Wills & Estate Planning, The Health Insurance Group, Formation Media, Switch The Play Foundation, and Today’s Wills & Probate, whose support helped bring the event to life.
The Inspiration & Innovation Conference continues to grow in both impact and ambition, and BEST are proud to see it becoming a platform where ideas are not only shared, but acted upon. The success of this year’s event is a testament to the incredible professionals shaping the future of estate planning and the wider advisory community.
