ILM to launch Love Your Legacy Manager campaign

The Institute of Legacy Management (ILM) is launching its first-ever Love Your Legacy Manager (LYLM) campaign on 25 September, aimed at CEOs and senior managers across the charity sector.

Designed to create awareness of the importance of the legacy manager role and highlight legacies as an increasingly valuable income stream, it will include a dedicated LYLM website, video interviews with legacy managers and a raft of downloadable resources.

ILM CEO Matthew Lagden, said: “We are thrilled to be launching this fabulous new campaign, which aims to shine a much-needed spotlight on the role of legacy teams.

“Over the next 20+ years, legacies will become ever more important as a source of income for charities of all shapes and sizes, yet members tell us they often feel under-valued, under-resourced and struggle to be heard at the top table.

“We hope that by focusing this campaign at senior charity leaders, it will help them understand more about the role of legacy teams and they will realise that if they invest more in legacies now, they will be helping to secure their charity’s financial future.”

The LYLM website (www.loveyourlegacymanager.org.uk) went live on 11 September and includes a resources section with a CEO information pack.

Among the materials will be:

  • a factsheet about the role of a legacy manager
  • statistics demonstrating how much legacies contribute to charities
  • highlights and quotes from the legacy manager survey
  • articles about some of the typical/unusual roles legacy managers undertake
  • video and written interviews with legacy managers

The campaign officially starts two weeks later, with a free one-hour webinar led by Matthew and featuring insight and expertise from ILM partners Kath Horsley at Legacy Foresight and Kate Telfer from Farewill.

Covering topics such as ‘Why should I invest in my legacy team?’, ‘How does legacy management deliver ROI?’ and ‘How long much budget to allocate to legacies’; the webinar will include a Q&A session.

In addition, to help get the conversation started, the ILM has introduced a Time for Tea mini-campaign – complete with LYLM mugs – to encourage CEOs and senior managers to stop for a 10-minute tea break with their legacy managers and find out more about their role.

Participants will be encouraged to post photos from their Time for Tea get-together on the ILM’s social media and photos will feature on the LYLM website.
