Harrogate Wills Specialist A Double Finalist In Yorkshire Legal Awards 2019

Harrogate solicitors IDR Law were a finalist for Niche Law Firm of the Year at the Yorkshire Legal Awards 2019, with founder Martin Holdsworth also making the shortlist for Yorkshire Lawyer of the Year.

This year’s ceremony took place on October 10 at New Dock Hall in Leeds. The Yorkshire Legal Awards have been held since 2000 by business publisher Barker Brooks to recognise the best in legal talent across the region, with a panel of judges drawn from the local legal community.

Martin said:

“To receive two finalist listings in a single year is a very gratifying and I see it as real recognition of the hard work and professionalism of the entire IDR team.”

IDR Law was founded in 2017 as a boutique firm focusing entirely on the growing demand for contentious probate services. Its website proclaims boldly that inheritance dispute resolution is “all we do” and it is the only law form in the UK to specialise solely in this niche area of law.

Since first opening its doors just two short years ago, IDR Law has:

  • Increased its team from 3 to 8 members
  • Exceeded £1.3 million in turnover
  • Opened its 250th case
  • Achieved its first leading firm ranking from prestigious international directory the Legal 500

Meanwhile, Martin himself was recently declared a leading individual in his field across Yorkshire and the Humber by Legal 500 for the fifth year in a row. Martin brings a wealth of experience to the field: he has dealt with wills and probate dispute resolution for more than two decades. He sits on the national committee of the Association of Contentious Trust and Probate Specialists.

After previously developing class-leading teams at two firms in Leeds, Martin founded IDR Law as a practice focused solely on this specialist area of law.

A boutique law firm that specialises solely in resolving inheritance disputes – it’s all we do! The only law firm that does not compete with those that deal with non-contentious wills, trust and probate work. All clients referred to us from will writers, solicitors, probate adminsitration companies, law firms, IFAs and other organisations looking after families. We also take instructions directly from the general public. The firm was set up in 2017 by Martin Holdsworth, who has been dealing with probate disputes for over 25 years. Listed as one of only 2 leading individuals in his field for Yorkshire and the Humber by the legal 500, his teams have also won several awards including two Yorkshire Lawyer awards and a shortlisting for National Contentious Team of the year by step. Martin has sat on the ACTAPS committee for several years and is well known on the probate lecture circuit and still enjoys providing in-house training to IDR Law’s network of referrers. At IDR Law, our core values are simple - we care about what is happening to our clients and understand the needs of our referrers and the sector they operate in. We have a productive and easy going style and only work on a win:win basis. We always begin with the end in mind. Martin’s unique experience and outlook in the probate dispute sector gave cause to the creation of IDR Law Technologies - a tech company set up to develop and deliver tech solutions into the probate market. The goal of each of the products and services is simple - to enable more individuals and families to access solutions to real and recurring problems in a way that is accessible, both in terms of cost and ease of use.
