Firm celebrates £500k support for cancer research

A York-based law firm is celebrating 2 milestones in its effort to raise money for Cancer Research UK. RG Law has hit 7 years service with over £500,000 of legacy gifts for the cancer charity.

RG Law have been participating in Cancer Research UK’s Free Wills Service since 2016, which enables people to write their wills for free with a solicitor, using an online service or via phone. During this time, RG Law has helped 243 people to create their will and the gifts they have pledged to leave to the nation’s foremost cancer charity are predicted to be worth around £568,000.

Cancer Research UK’s Free Wills Service describes itself as a “sector-leading Free Will Service” and provides advice on “how to speak with your clients about charity Gifts in Wills and the types of gifts that are available.”

Commenting on the relationship Donata Crossfield, Wills and Probate Director at RG Law, says:

“We are proud to work with Cancer Research UK to raise funds through gifts in Wills which make a massive difference in enabling the charity to carry out research and save lives.

“We recently attended a Cancer Research UK  Inspire event at The Hospitium in The York Museum Gardens. It was fabulous to be valued as the charity’s Free Will Service solicitor. We heard inspiring and informative updates from three key speakers from Cancer Research UK, including Sarah Kent, part of the Clinical Trials Unit in St James Hospital in Leeds, who enlightened us on some of the amazing work Cancer Research UK fund in this area.”

Cancer Research UK says gifts in Wills fund a third of its research, which has seen cancer survival rates double in the last 50 years. Helen Soutar, Legacy Partnership Manager, North of England Region, Cancer Research UK adds

“By combining dedication with the highest professional standards, Donata and her team have facilitated around half a million pounds worth of legacy gifts. Our Free Will and Legacy Guidance Services are provided without obligation, and we are grateful to RG Law for the expertise and sensitivity they show in providing clear information and guidance to help people in York to make the best choices for them.

“Those who pledge to leave a gift in their Will to Cancer Research UK are helping to create a future that protects the people they love, and we take that responsibility very seriously. It’s thanks to the generosity and commitment of our partners and supporters we can keep making progress and fund the vital treatments of tomorrow.”
