The application fee to the Office of the Public Guardian for Lasting Powers of Attorney will increase later this year, subject to parliamentary approval.
The Ministry of Justice has confirmed it intends to increase the fee from £82 per LPA application to £92 from 17th November 2025. It has also confirmed the repeat application fee which is currently £41 will increase to £46.
The Ministry of Justice say the increase will “make sure that income from LPA applications better meets the cost of delivering the services provided by OPG.”
The current exemptions and remissions reductions structure will remain offering a reduced rate depending on financial circumstances.
The latest annual report from the OPG says the body has now successfully cleared the LPA registration backlog which Amy Holmes, Public Guardian and Chief Executive described as ‘a major priority’ adding the OPG was now back to business as usual. Registrations are now targeted for completion within 40 days.
The report adds the OPG has done much to improve its customer satisfaction score to 84% for Power of Attorney Services, above its 80% target, with 57% of contact centre calls answered within 5 minutes, up from 31%, and average wait times consistently below 5 minutes since November 2024.
An increase of over 1m registrations has seen the LPA and EPA register increase from 8,039,546 to 9,340,910 over the previous financial year.

The increase percentage rate is ridiculous. What you are likely to achieve is a reduction in applications, maybe that’s the objective.
What you don’t seem to appreciate is this is just another cost of living increase that will judged to be a priority or not.
