It’s been confirmed by the Treasury that the cold-calling ban has been delayed.
Due to what has been described as ‘technicalities’, the regulations will not be put before parliament until later this year, despite plans for it to be implemented by the end of this month.
A spokesman from the Treasury said: “Following debates in parliament, and having considered evidence from the industry, we will launch a short consultation on the draft legislation to ensure it is as effective and robust as possible.”
Before the regulations can be passed, they must be debated by both the House of Lords and the House of Commons. The regulations have not yet been published.
Tom Selby, senior analyst at AJ Bell said: “We have been waiting almost two years for the government to back up its tough talk on tackling pension scammers with action. It is therefore hugely disappointing that the cold-calling ban faces further delay as policymakers iron out as yet unspecified ‘technicalities’.”
