The coming week (11th – 17th September) marks the beginning of Remember A Charity Week which will see all things charitable legacies take centre stage.
Taking place every September, Remember A Charity Week is described as an opportunity for everyone to consider leaving a gift to a charity in their will once they have catered for family and friends.
It also serves as a reminder of the importance of an up-to-date will, as well as a chance for advisers to open up conversations around charitable estates and relevant tax breaks to current and prospective.
Remember A Charity said there are already over 800 professionals across the UK onboard as a supporter of the campaign. Others can still sign up for free. On why advisers might join, Remember A Charity say:
“As a professional advisor, you know that giving your clients the best advice means everything.
We know that 74% of the British public support a charity during their lifetime. The issue is that only 6.4% think to include these in their Will.
You can help us bridge this disconnect.
Its free to become a Remember A Charity Campaign Supporter – and you’ll receive access to a range of tailored resources, promotional materials, and benefits exclusively available to Campaign Supporters.”
On the general importance of legacies to charities, Remember A Charity said:
“Legacies are a vital source income to UK charities, generating almost £4 billion for good causes each year. These donations are sustaining charities and vital services across the country, funding:
-
- Six out of 10 RNLI rescue launches
- Over a third of Marie Curie’s hospice care
- Crucial support for hundreds of small and community-based charities
But… although we are a charitable nation, many don’t think to include a charitable donation when writing their Will”
