The Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) is bringing disciplinary proceedings against a solicitor accused of repeatedly making sexually motivated comments to a trainee at the same firm.
Regan Peggs will face an independent tribunal, according to the SRA, after the Solicitors Disciplanry Tribunal (SDT) decided there is a case to answer in respect of allegations which currently stand unproven.
The SRA said the tribunal had certified there was a case to answer over allegations that, while practising at Regan Peggs Solicitors on 2 May 2022, the solicitor repeatedly made comments to a trainee solicitor (identified as person A) that were “sexually motivated and/or sexual in nature”.
The regulator stressed that the independent tribunal would reach its own decision after considering all the evidence, including any submitted by the solicitor.
Peggs worked at Regan Peggs Solicitors Limited at the time of the allegations, before the SRA closed the firm down in March last year.
Citing reasons for the closure, it said there was “reason to suspect dishonesty on the part of Mr Peggs in connection with his practice as a solicitor” and there for it was “necessary to intervene to protect the interests of clients and any beneficiaries of any trust”.
The allegations against Peggs are subject to a hearing before the SDT.
