Play & Plan initiative launched to make estate planning accessible to mums

A new initiative has been launched to allow mums to receive advice around wills and estate planning in an environment where their children are free to go off and play.

Estate planning consultant and mum-of-two, Megan Dugdale, has pioneered the project Play & Plan, a completely free consultation service that is accessible to mums and is hosted at soft play centres to ensure it is a family-friendly experience.

The project was launched in November last year, with Play & Plan events running monthly across two settings local to Peterborough, Stamford, Lincolnshire and St Neots.

Megan, who works as a consultant at law firm W&P Legal, said she realised through having children how a lack of time can prevent important conversations around estate planning from happening and saw an opportunity to create an environment for those conversations to take place.

She said: “Having young children is actually one of the strongest reasons to think about estate planning.

“For parents, it isn’t simply about what happens to your assets when you die; it is about making sure there is a plan in place for the people who depend on you if the unexpected happens.

“Ultimately, estate planning for young families is about putting a plan in place for the people you love most.”

Parents can bring along their children for a free play session (covered by W&P Legal) and while there can access professional advice as well as having conversations with other parents surrounding estate planning, touching on topics such as wills, guardianship, powers of attorney, trusts and more.

Every consultation is personalised and there is no obligation to proceed or commit to anything on the day, Megan explained.

She continued: “We launched Play & Plan in November 2025, and since then we have supported almost 50 parents with their wills and other legal documents.

“What makes that particularly meaningful to me is that I’m doing this alongside being a mum myself and currently working part-time.

“It shows me that there is a real appetite for a different approach to estate planning; one that fits more naturally around family life.”

As well as attending events, parents also have the option of booking a direct appointment with Megan at a play setting outside of the event dates.

The consultant is looking to eventually expand the inititative further to reach other areas of the country.

Upcoming events are advertised on Megan’s social media account @the_estateplanningmum
