HM Courts and Tribunals Service (HMCTS) has appointed Megan Lee-Devlin as its new chief executive officer, responsible for the administration of criminal, civil and family courts in England and Wales.
As director general for justice services and transformation at the Ministry of Justice (MoJ), Lee-Devlin led the digital transformation of services across the justice system, including in prisons, probation and services for victims as well as the operational delivery of legal aid, lasting powers of attorney and victim compensation.
Lee-Devlin said of her appointment: “It is a great privilege to be appointed to lead HMCTS at this important time. I look forward to working with the independent judiciary, ministers, system partners and the 19,000 committed civil servants working to deliver modern and efficient courts and tribunals for everyone who relies on them.”
Welcoming Lee-Devlin, Sarah Sackman KC MP, minister of state for courts and legal services, said: “Our courts and tribunals are fundamental to the rule of law and to ensuring everyone can access justice when they need it. Megan brings the vision and experience HMCTS needs to deliver excellent services for the public, support our dedicated staff and judiciary, and continue the vital work of modernising our courts and tribunals.”
Before joining the civil service Lee-Devlin worked at IBM, PwC and McKinsey & Company on digital, analytics and organisational transformation. As director general of the Central Digital and Data Office in the Cabinet Office she oversaw the government’s digital, data and technology function before joining the Ministry of Justice.
Lee-Devlin succeeds Nick Goodwin, who becomes director general for policy at the MoJ.
