Octopus Legacy has launched its free wills campaign in England and Wales, partnering with over 150 charities.
Running until 31 March 2026, the scheme enables individuals to write a simple will at no cost, either online or through a face to face appointment with an estate planning consultant. Where a more complex will is required, including those involving trusts, costs are covered up to £150.
The campaign runs alongside the national Free Wills Month and aims to make will writing more accessible, whilst encouraging people to consider leaving a gift to charity as part of their legacy.
In 2025, Octopus Legacy supported tens of thousands of customers in will writing, raising £39.2 million for charity partners, and an estimated £140 million in pledged income.
Gifts in wills can be a lifeline for the charity sector, with an estimated 28% of all funds raised for UK charities coming from legacy donations. This year’s campaign sees Octopus Legacy partner with charities including Macmillan, RSPB, ActionAid UK, WWF, Canal and River Trust and RNIB.
Sam Grice, founder and CEO, Octopus Legacy, said:
“A will is often treated as a box to tick, but for many people it is also a chance to shape their legacy through supporting the causes they care about most.
“This campaign is about making that decision easier, removing cost and complexity, and helping people turn good intentions into something lasting and meaningful.”
A spokesperson for pregnancy and baby loss charity Sands said:
“Gifts in wills help us be there for every family affected by pregnancy and baby loss and help save babies’ lives.
“Partnering with Octopus Legacy on the campaigns has helped us to reach a new audience we wouldn’t have been able to tap into ourselves. During the spring 2025 campaign, we raised an estimated £700k in future legacy income.”
