Kirk Douglas’ Lasting Legacy

At the beginning of the month, the world mourned legendary star of the silver screen, Kirk Douglas, who passed away on 5th February aged 103.

It has now emerged that the Spartacus actor has left his entire fortune to charity, through the Douglas Foundation – which he founded with his wife Anne – which aims to “help those who cannot otherwise help themselves.”

The star ‘gave away’ $50m of his $61m legacy, with beneficiaries including: St Lawrence University, Westwood’s Sinai Temple, Culver City’s Kirk Doulas Theatre and a Children’s Hospital in Los Angeles.

The Douglas Foundation website states:

“It’s [The Douglas Foundation] primary focus is improving the education and health, fostering the well-being, and most importantly developing new opportunities for the children who hold our future in their hands.”

It hasn’t been reported how or where the final $11m will be distributed. However, it has been reported that the star has left nothing to son Michael Douglas, a successful actor in his own right, who has amassed an estimated fortune of $300m or his daughter-in-law Catherine Zeta Jones.
