New consumer guide to placing deceased estates notices for practitioners

A new guide to placing deceased estates notices on The Gazette has been released to help practitioners explain the importance and key benefits of notice placement to clients.

Deceased estates notice placement, also known as Section 27 placement or statutory advertising, provides the executor of a will and personal representatives with financial protection from any claims to the estate after it has been distributed. Gazette notices are afforded legal standing, so after two months (or a recommended six months in Scotland) the estate can be administered with peace of mind that every effort has been made to locate any unknown creditors, claimants, or beneficiaries.

Clause 28 in the Wills and Inheritance Quality Scheme (WIQS) accreditation guidelines also requests that members consider placing statutory advertisements as part of the administration of an estate.

The new guide has proved popular with practitioners, with The Gazette, the Official Public Record, receiving positive feedback and plenty of requests for copies of the guide to share with clients.

“Since launching the guide in the summer, we have received encouraging feedback on how helpful it has been to pass on to clients. We know we can support many other probate professionals and invite them to get in touch for their free copy. Notice placement is considered best practice in the industry and our aim is to help practitioners to demonstrate the importance to clients in any way we can.”

says Janine Eves, Business and Operations Director for The Gazette.

Probate practitioners can request a PDF or printed copies, which can form part of a client information pack or simply sent on to explain why deceased estates notice placement is being recommended.
