OPG Release Covid-19 Advice

OPG Release Covid-19 Advice

The Office of the Public Guardian (OPG) has issued advice to the sector, as it continues to adapt to the ever-changing conditions as a result of the Coronavirus pandemic.

The OPG has stated that it will continue to deliver services and support those who are planning for the future. But rest assured they are taking the appropriate measures to ensure safety is maintained as well as the service.

Phone service

Due to these uncertain times, the amount of phone calls the OPG has received has risen. Phone calls will be answered, however, they are taking a little longer due to reduced staffing levels, but all phone calls will be answered.

The OPG is encouraging people to utilise internet services wherever possible and find information on websites where they can. So, for those wanting information regarding their roles as deputies or attorneys, they are advised to visit the GOV.UK website.

If you have an urgent safeguarding issue regarding a vulnerable person, the OPG is urging people to contact the police.

The OPG says business in areas including but not limited to: Lasting Power of Attorneys (LPAs), Safeguarding assessments and investigations and Guardianships will continue, although it may take a little longer to complete some of the necessary steps. The OPG will endeavour to keep people updated.

There will of course be some changes to some services the OPG provides. For example, where they need to conduct visits, these have been reduced due to the governmental guidance. Telephone calls will replace face to face visitors and in some case email can be used.

Those who have a visit diarised in with the OPG will be updated shortly on an alternative.
