Event Details

Date: Thursday 27th January 2022, 12noon-1pm

The National Will Register is delighted to have Barristers Alex Cisneros and Thomas Jones leading our first Expert Webinar of 2022, covering the aspects of health and welfare that those managing a person’s money need to be aware of. This will include deprivation of liberty and reforms in this area and questions of care and residence.

It will explore the obligations on property and affairs deputies to both report their concerns to other people and to ensure that P’s best interests are being looked after. As always, the seminar will emphasise the importance of obtaining a person’s wishes and feelings (particularly in this instance regarding any wish to maintain their own home or have a particular quality of life) and how searching for a Will is a good place to start.

Alex Cisneros is a specialist public law and private client barrister at Outer Temple Chambers. He has experience handling significant contentious and non-contentious matters with a particular emphasis on mental capacity. He has been involved in many of the recent reported property and affairs cases and is ranked as a rising star in this area.

Thomas Jones was called in 2015 and has a broad public and civil practice at 9 Gough Chambers. He is ranked as a ‘Rising Star: Tier 1’ in the Legal 500 for Court of Protection and Community Care and was recently shortlisted for the Young Family Barrister of the Year Award. Prior to joining Chambers, Thomas worked for the Law Commission on its review into the Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards, which led to the Mental Capacity (Amendment) Act 2019, which will replace the DOLS with the LPS.
